Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains what data Lexplorium (“we”, “us”, “platform”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. It covers the app at app.lexplorium.com and the lexplorium.com website.
In short: we collect only what we need to run your account and your study schedule. We don’t show ads, we don’t sell data, and the app has no third-party tracking.
What we collect
When you explore without an account, we don’t know who you are. Like any website, our hosting provider handles technical data such as your IP address and browser type, so it can serve pages and block abuse.
When you create an account, we store:
- your email address, your native language and your app settings. Your password is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider, and we never see it;
- whether you’ve agreed to receive occasional updates via email;
- your study record: the words you save and study, their progress, and a history of your reviews, including the answers you typed.
When you contact us, we store what you send: feedback messages, content flags and any comments on them. If you’re signed in, the message is linked to your account. If you’re not, we only have the email address you choose to share with us, if any.
If you submit a poll or mailing list form on lexplorium.com, we store your email address, the options you ticked where applicable, and the language of the page you used, so that we can write to you in it. The website also collects anonymous data about how visitors use it. This is collected without cookies or local storage, and isn’t linked to your email or account.
We don’t ask for your name, location or date of birth.
How we use it
- to run your account and your review schedule;
- to send account emails, such as sign-up confirmation and password resets;
- to answer feedback and act on reports;
- to keep the service secure and prevent abuse;
- to improve Lexplorium, for example by tuning review timing from overall review patterns;
- to send update emails, only if you’ve agreed to them. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Generated content
Whenever the platform relies on AI inference to generate content, it sends only the word, its meaning and the source and target languages. Your email, your answers and anything else about you are never sent to the AI provider. The results aren’t personalised to you and are shared by every learner of the same language.
Services we use
Your data is stored and processed by a few trusted providers, necessary to run Lexplorium:
- Supabase: database and authentication;
- Vercel: hosting;
- Resend: account emails;
- Kit: the mailing list;
- PostHog (EU): anonymous website analytics.
Some of these providers are based in the United States. When paid plans launch, we’ll add the payment provider here. We never sell your data.
Cookies
The app sets only the cookies it needs: one to keep you signed in and one to remember a display preference. Your browser also keeps a few interface settings in local storage, such as the translation language you last picked. That data stays on your device. The lexplorium.com website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. We don’t use advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and study data for as long as you have an account. Deleting your account deletes all of it: your profile, study list, review history, flags and feedback. Mailing-list data is kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, get a copy of your study data, or have it deleted. You can also withdraw consent for update emails at any time. Most settings can be changed directly in the app.
To delete your account, sign in and send a deletion request through the Feedback form in the help menu. A request sent while you’re signed in is linked to your account, so we know it comes from you. For anything else in this section, send a Feedback message while you’re signed in.
Children
Lexplorium teaches English as it is actually used, and real language includes some rough and informal words. The most explicit vocabulary is hidden from everyone. If we ever make it available, it will only be through an opt-in for adults. Some coarse language still remains part of the platform, just as it is part of the language.
With that in mind, children under 16 may use Lexplorium with the consent of a parent or guardian, who should create or approve the account. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has signed up without your consent, contact us through the Feedback form and we will delete the account.
Changes
When we update this policy, we’ll change the date above. We’ll let account holders know about significant changes.
